"Peace to you."

Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side. The disciples, seeing the Teacher with their own eyes, were awestruck. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you.” Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said.

H+ey Beautiful+.

May was something else, wasn't it? I find myself stepping into June holding the hand of Peace with a tight grip. My heart broke into a million tiny pieces as Buffalo NY, Uvalde TX, and Laguna Woods CA made the news one by one.

Grief, disappointment, frustration and even fear have all knocked on the door of my heart; wishing to pay me a visit these past few weeks.

My younger self probably would have sent such feelings away in Jesus’ name. But. Along my own journey with God, I’ve learned that these emotions are all welcome in his presence.

At Lazarus’ tomb, Jesus wept.

In the temple courtyard, Jesus flipped tables.

In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus groaned and asked if he could possibly skip this next part.

And in the upper room where his disciples huddled in fear, Jesus showed up among them. Peace be with you.

Over and over again, scripture is filled with reminders of Jesus’ love for humanity and his presence in the room. Peace be with you.

So, I’d like to hold space in June for you to perhaps welcome grief, fear & sadness. What in your current season can you no longer tolerate? What might you be hiding from? Where is Jesus in the room and how might he be inviting you to breathe through the tension?

Maybe these questions bring to mind large global issues or maybe they stir something on your heart that's unique to you. Either way, there's plenty of space for you to come away with God and explore it here.

In Soul Care:

This month, I'll offer an Ignatian Meditation practice centered around John 20:19-23:

Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side. The disciples, seeing the Teacher with their own eyes, were awestruck. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you.” Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said.

Through the practice of Soul Care, we'll look together for "Jesus in the room" and how he might be standing with you in your current season- extending peace to you.

In the Member’s Grove:

  • Fri. June 3rd @4p PT: 30 minute Guided Journaling session through the Prayer of Examen. This monthly practice will hold space for you to look back over your month for glimmers of God's peace.

  • Fri. June 17th @4p PT: 30 minute Savasana Session featuring "legs up the wall or door" and the Welcoming Prayer. This practice will hold space for you to breathe and let go of tension.

Pssst. The Member's Grove is a NEW addition to The Atrium and you can learn more about joining us here!

I'm praying that Peace be with you this month, sweet friend. Not peace as the world gives, but as the Spirit gives. May you find the time and the space to take a deep breath and may you be awestruck as you come face to face with Jesus in the room. Let's meet, soon.

Holding space,

Kate Lee
